Nada Sou Sou

8-year old Yotaro gains a 3-year old step-sister, Kaoru, when his mother marries a jazz musician who plays in a club in Naha, Okinawa where they live. Before long Kaoru's father deserts them, and not long afterward Yota's mother becomes terminally ill. Her dying wish is for him to watch out for Kaoru at his grandmother's place on a small island off the coast of Okinawa. He fulfills her wish and becomes very protective of his younger sister who calls him "nee-nee." Thirteen years later Kaoru returns to Naha and comes to live with him as she starts high school. Yota works hard making deliveries of vegetables from an open-air market by day, and in a restaurant (he is a licensed chef) by night to save money to fulfill his dream of having his own restaurant. He also assumes the role of pushing for Kaoru's entrance to a university. This allows less time for his beautiful girlfriend Keiko, the daughter of a doctor and a medical student at Ryukyu University. It seems that Yota's dreams start to come together when Mr. Kameoka sells him a place for a restaurant. Yota works hard constructing the place, but just as he is to open, the real owner appears. Being swindled, Yota is left with a large outstanding loan. Keiko's father's plans do not include a working class son-in-law as he explains when he offers to pay Yota's debt. Although he refuses, Yota concludes he is not best for Keiko's future. Years later he continues to overwork even after the debt is paid and Kaoru starts university study. With her feelings of love for Yota growing deeper, they mutually decide to live apart.

Dororo

Year: 2007
Director: Koichi Chigira

Action: Ching Siu-Tung

Cast: Satoshi Tsumabuki, Kou Shibasaki, Kiichi Nakai, Yoshio Harada, Kumiko Aso, Eita, Anna Tsuchiya, Hitori Gekidan, Mieko Harada

Manga-to-movie adaptation that mixes horror, swordplay, and cheesy CGI for a decidedly mixed bag experience. Unintentional laughter is guaranteed with Dororo, but decent emotions and energetic action can be had too. Fun, if not substantial.

Galileo

If you're in with sci-fi and investigative type of drama here's the perfect jdorama for you...

Kaoru Utsumi, a rookie detective who has just been reassigned to the criminal division, finds her investigation of her first murder case stalled by the seemingly supernatural phenomenons surrounding the event. She seeks help from Shunpei Kusanagi, a senior detective at the police headquarter, who introduces her to his college buddy and an associate professor at Teito University, Manabu Yukawa. Yukawa is a tall, handsome, and brilliant man who is interested in nothing but physical science, while Utsumi is a hot-blooded girl with a strong sense of justice. Orange Days

Orange Days

Genre Drama
Starring Satoshi Tsumabuki
Kou Shibasaki
Manami Konishi
Country of origin Flag of Japan Japan
Language(s) Japanese
No. of episodes 11

I've been watching japanese drama series ever since I could remember, and this drama was one of my favorites. Its a story about a girl (Sae Hagio) who's been deaf for 4 years who accidentally fell in love with a guy (Kai Yuuki) who's already in a relationship, its a coincidental love affair thanks to Maho Takagi (Kai Yuuki's friend) who was supposed to date Haigo... Its a complicated story since both of the characters are struggling because Kai Yuuki is in a relationship and Sae Hagio doesn't know how to handle her insecurities because of her current situation.
